The Heart Behind the Garden

Andrea Phronebarger, PhD, is a psychologist, educator, administrator, and family centered storyteller whose writing blends professional insight with heartfelt narratives inspired by real life. As Chair of General Education at two health sciences colleges, Andrea brings more than twenty years of experience in higher education to her work both in and beyond the classroom.

Her debut children’s book, Gigi’s Garden of Patience, is the first in a series that uses the gentle rhythm of gardening to introduce young readers to meaningful life lessons rooted in social emotional learning (SEL). Inspired by her own grandchildren, bright and curious children of color who light up her world, and a lovable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Bentley, Andrea weaves stories that nurture character, build emotional awareness, and reflect the importance of representation. Her work affirms that all children deserve to see themselves in stories filled with love, growth, and everyday joy.

When she is not writing, teaching, or leading her department, Andrea enjoys tending her real-life garden, sharing stories, and delighting in the joy and wonder that children bring to the world.
